Wal-Mart provides health insurance for less than 50% of their workers, compared to Costco which insures 96% (source: TNR.com). In fact, Wal-Mart workers were eligible for $2.5 billion in federal assistance in 2004.

Because Wal-Mart employees are so underpaid and lacking benefits, we taxpayers must chip in to help foot the bill. Remember that the next time you shop at Wal-Mart (or do as I do and opt for Costco).
