How could this have happened? Hours later, watching Kerry give his concession speech, it's just hitting home how truly sad today is. I tried to picture the White House seal hovering behind him as he spoke, and it was easy to do, but it was not to be. Instead, we'll still have to witness this seal behind the head of a true moron, an idiot which based on his first term will go down as one of the worst presidents in history. I venture to guess there will be no debate on this in the future.

To a point, I agree with Will Saletan as to why we lost to Karl Rove once more. He proclaims, "simplicity, simplicity, simplicity." He feels Kerry was too complex and the country wanted the simple man. Agreed, the majority of the country is comprised of simple folk. Based on last night, it's a fact. Saletan concurs that Bush has been "the worst president in memory" but that's not the point with regards to why Bush won and Kerry lost. If you're not simple and do indeed value intelligence, complexity and facts, you need to leave this country to find one that has a leader who better matches this profile. You're SIMPLY not going to find it here in the USA. This country truly believes the devil is in the details.

Speaking of Satan, it's my belief that he and God were the #1 driving force behind the election results. Kudos to Karl Rove on this front as religion won out. The born-again Evangelical types turned out in droves, and guess who they voted for? No matter how badly Bush has been on most issues (Iraq, environment, jobs, healthcare, education, etc.), it simply doesn't matter to religious kooks -- oops, I mean folks. They simply care about abortion & gays, period, nothing more. And then they march to the voting booths en mass, gnashing their teeth and remaining focused on just those one or two or three (at most) righteous issues, determined to be saved from eternal damnation with the pull of a lever.

It's not the fear of terrorism that was the paramount influence in this election, but rather it was the fear of going to hell. Simple or not, it's just crazy.
